WE CAN’T DO IT ALONE
We raised significant funds for The Moffitt Cancer Center and Memorial Healthcare System’s quest for a cure through our inaugural Cruise Pink for a Cure Giveaway, which debuted at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The pink ICON Golf Cart was a popular prize, and was the catalyst for very generous donations. The endeavor was so successful, we are donning our pink armor and joining forces to fight this battle once again!
TALK ABOUT JOINING FORCES…
This year, we are entering the battlefield with a true warrior, Boat Boss Kim Sweers! This month marks the 10th anniversary of the date that Kim received the life-altering diagnosis of breast cancer. Her strength and determination, as well as the compassionate medical team at Moffitt Cancer Center, enabled Kim to claim victory in her battle against the disease.
Having earned the title of “Survivor,” Kim is determined to give back to the community that gave back her life. Kim shared that she opted for a more conservative approach on the advice of her doctors. Since her cancer had not metastasized, she underwent a lumpectomy and radiation therapy. Though it was appealing to avoid heavy chemotherapy and a full mastectomy, in hindsight she wishes she would have been more on the offensive upon the initial diagnosis.
“You are not greater than cancer. Cancer is greater than all of us,” Kim said. “It’s not enough to simply fight cancer. We must eradicate cancer at all costs!” Her mission is to share her experience so she can help others win their battles more effectively.
HONORING A LEGACY
In order to be a fierce advocate for other warriors fighting breast cancer, Kim has become a board member of the Moffitt Cancer Center. She sees this as a way of carrying on the legacy of love and support that she received from her close friend and mentor, the late philanthropist Marti Huizenga. The Huizenga family, led by Marti and her husband, business mogul H. Wayne Huizenga, set a new standard of philanthropy in South Florida.
Knowing Kim needed guidance and cohesive medical care, Marti encouraged her to seek treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Moffitt is one of the top freestanding cancer centers in the country, as well as the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center based in Florida. Kim is forever grateful for this advice. Bringing the Moffitt Cancer Center to South Florida was a long-time vision for Marti, and through acting as a board member, Kim is therefore able to honor Marti’s legacy of care and dedication to the community.

To honor the 10th anniversary of her diagnosis, Kim really wanted to find a way to make this hallmark year meaningful, and more importantly, impactful.
